- Hotel Fact: This hotel transitioned to a Marriott property in early 2024. It just re-opened in 2025. Following a multimillion-dollar renovation, the resort has 100 oceanfront suites, each with private terraces or balconies.
-
Exceptional Staff: The service here is highly personalized, largely thanks to the long-term staff. John, the doorman, is a genuine highlight; he’s always ready with a helping hand for luggage or a quick taxi, even if he sometimes talks your ear off when you’re rushing out—he’s a true sweetheart and a cornerstone of the guest experience. Similarly, Holden, the main bartender, has consistently mixed excellent cocktails for us and our colleagues over the years, making the bar feel like a familiar, welcoming spot.
-
Prime Location: Unbeatable proximity to the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) and a plethora of International Drive restaurants. Being local to so many great dining options makes up for the inconsistent on-site food.
-
Beautiful Pool Area: A circular pool that acts as a perfect oasis for unwinding, complemented by attentive poolside bar service for cocktail convenience.
-
Marriott Bonvoy Value: Excellent for maximizing Bonvoy points with frequent, extended stays, which is a major factor in our continued loyalty.
-
Inconsistent AC: The air conditioning units in rooms are often weak, a significant drawback in the Orlando climate. Expect a constant battle with humidity and heat.
-
Parking Fees: Beware of the self-parking cost, which generally runs between $10 and $25 daily (always confirm the latest rate). For a standard open-air lot that doesn’t seem to actively check tags or enforce parking strictly, this charge feels frankly unnecessary and is a common source of irritation for guests.
-
Room Views: Views are limited, generally overlooking the pool or the parking lot, offering nothing scenic to glance at out the window.
-
Room Condition: Despite a recent refresh, some rooms show minor wear, such as tiny cracks in countertops and toilet fixtures, making the rooms feel less polished than a typical Autograph Collection hotel.

Review: Castle Hotel, Autograph Collection, Orlando — A Love/Hate Relationship
The Castle Hotel, Autograph Collection in Orlando, has consistently served as our home-base for the past four years, primarily during large industry trade shows. It’s a property that fosters a complex relationship—a mix of genuine affection for the location and key staff, combined with frustration over the physical product and what feels like unwarranted nickel-and-diming. This love-hate dynamic is central to the experience at this unique Marriott hotel.
Service & The Lobby Vibe
The lobby, while compact, is the central hub of great service. There’s usually complimentary water available throughout the day, which is a nice touch, and a coffee bar set up in the mornings (though be prepared for an approximate $8 charge for a standard coffee). We’ve heard rumors of a big upgrade coming to this space, perhaps adding a spa or new restaurant, which we are certainly interested in seeing.
The connected bar area, part of The Guild, is a highlight. We’ve spent weeks here with colleagues over the years. Holden, one of the bartenders, has consistently served up great cocktails, making it a comfortable spot to unwind after a long day at the convention center.
The Rooms: Where the Love-Hate Begins
My main point of contention lies with the rooms. While the hotel feels relatively new, there are several small issues that detract significantly from the luxury brand standard.
First, there are minor structural imperfections that consistently stand out, specifically tiny, hairline cracks visible in the bathroom countertops and around the toilet fixtures. While they don’t impact function, they instantly make the room feel less polished and hint that the renovation may have been rushed.
Second, the views are disappointing—you’re either staring at the pool or the parking lot, offering no scenic distraction. Be warned: room placement can lead to extreme sunlight exposure. You’ll need to keep those blinds closed tightly in the morning, or the intense Orlando morning sun will completely blind you!
Lastly, and most critically for this climate, the air conditioning (AC) has always been notoriously weak. Trying to fight the suffocating Orlando humidity with an AC unit that barely cools the air is a struggle, and it’s easily our biggest, most consistent complaint about the physical rooms. Waking up sweaty in Florida is never ideal and truly breaks the luxury hotel illusion.
Amenities and Facilities
Despite the room quirks, the amenities provide excellent opportunities for relaxation.
The beautiful circular pool is a true oasis where we find peace and quiet. The dedicated poolside bartender makes the experience seamless, walking around to take cocktail orders, which adds a layer of unexpected convenience.
A couple of final oddities that truly baffle me are the two beautiful rooftop terraces. They offer expansive views of Orlando, yet they are perpetually underutilized and largely vacant. The hotel is sitting on two gorgeous, scenic event spaces and appears to do absolutely nothing with them, which feels like a tremendous missed opportunity to create a signature guest experience. Also, bathroom access near the main lobby is surprisingly limited, with only one restroom near the check-in desk for the entire downstairs area. On the plus side, the recent addition of a small market near the check-in desk is a huge improvement, offering drinks and snacks, saving a trip to a nearby grocery store.
On-Site Dining & Amenities
The hotel features one main restaurant and bar, a pool bar, and a convenient market in the lobby.

Final Verdict: Location and Loyalty Wins
The Castle Hotel is undoubtedly a mixed bag. Little things—like the surprisingly high price for a morning coffee ($8), the limited food/beverage discounts, and the strangely underutilized rooftops—add up to frustration. However, the reason we continue to absorb these quirks and return year after year is twofold and strictly pragmatic: its unmatched, walkable proximity to the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) for business, and the ability to rack up substantial Marriott Bonvoy points on long business stays. While the rooms and AC units need significant attention, the core value proposition of location and the quality of the service staff keep this love-hate cycle spinning.
