Design & Vibe: Incredible Mexican tile work, stylish lobby, and a vibrant, jungle-meets-ocean setting. The entire resort feels immersed in tropical energy.
Accommodations: Unique, townhouse-style rooms with guaranteed ocean views, large private outdoor cabanas, and stylish, open-concept bathrooms.
Beach & Ocean: Arguably the best beach in the area for swimming and relaxation, with two large pool areas right near the sand.
Culinary: Consistently delicious food across all venues, including top-notch seafood at Chevycheria and authentic Mexican dishes at Venazú.
Service (Daytime): Exceptional, fast, and friendly service, particularly from the pool and restaurant staff (Special thanks to Antonio, Gabi, Alejandro, Arturo, and Sergio!).
Location: The resort is quite isolated, making the All-Inclusive package a worthwhile option as leaving for meals is inconvenient.
Premium Service Gaps (4/5 Star): Some evening service aspects (housekeeping consistency, turndown amenities, proactively offered upgrades) need refinement to match the high price point of the most premium room categories.
Maintenance: Minor renovations or upkeep may soon be required in certain areas (e.g., pool/jacuzzi cleaning required upon request in the Ocean Front Pool Villa).
Party Scene: The hotel has a lively atmosphere, especially around the main pool area, which featured a fun partnership with Veuve Clicquot champagne during our stay.

Luxe Stay at the W Punta Mita: The Jungle Approach
Driving from the airport, the landscape is quiet and relatively undeveloped, which makes the arrival at W Punta de Mita even more impactful. The long, jungle-lined driveway immediately transports you to a lush, Tulum-like environment.
The moment you check in, you are greeted by a stunning, open-air lobby overlooking the main infinity pool and the Pacific Ocean beyond. The entire space is a masterpiece of design, featuring exquisite Mexican tile work that flows from the lobby bar and extends across a beautiful pedestrian bridge leading to the ocean—an instantly magical view.
The Rooms: Secluded Luxury with Ocean Views
The check-in process was seamless, complete with a welcome drink. The resort’s layout is uniquely designed to ensure nearly every “Hook” (room) has an ocean view, yet they are spaced apart like individual townhouses. This layout offers an incredible sense of seclusion.
We stayed in an Ocean Front Pool Villa, which was huge and featured two full bathrooms. The interior design perfectly blended traditional 1960s Mexican style with the brand’s modern, stylish touch. Our room had a private outdoor entry area with swings, a massive private cabana on the patio, and a bed positioned perfectly to overlook the ocean and the resort grounds. The shower itself also overlooked the resort, allowing you to enjoy ocean views while bathing.
Pools, Beach, and Wellness
The W excels in its outdoor areas. The main pool is very large, clean, and double-sided, complemented by a dedicated adults-only pool, WET Too, with unobstructed ocean views. The nearby secondary pool is especially exciting—it features a clear glass front, perfect for fun, unique photos floating in the water with the resort as a backdrop.
The beach itself is a major advantage for the W, offering a superior area for swimming compared to other properties in the larger Punta Mita area.
For wellness, the massive gymnasium is beautiful, covered, and surrounded by the tropical forest, creating an inspiring workout environment. The spa is highly recommended for some dedicated relaxation time.
Dining Experience: Deliciously Authentic
The quality of the food was a true highlight. Since the location is remote, we chose the all-inclusive package, which was completely worth it. Every dish we tried was spectacular:
Chevycheria: Amazing fresh seafood and ceviche for lunch.
Venazú: We dined here three times, and the Enchiladas were genuinely some of the best we’ve ever had.
Poolside: Freshly prepared salsas, shrimp, and fish tacos were always quick and delicious.
The Service Difference (Where the W Shines and Fumbles)
The daytime staff and service at the pools and restaurants are truly outstanding—fast, friendly, and attentive.
However, the W shows minor inconsistencies compared to other high-end, 5-star properties in this price range ($1,500 USD/night with AI). For example:
Housekeeping: On one occasion, cleaning was significantly delayed until the evening, and there were no special turn-down touches (like fresh fruits or handwritten notes).
Attention to Detail: Items like wine glasses and ice buckets were not refreshed without having to ask.
Proactive Service: Upon check-in, an upgrade was only offered at an extra cost ($520 USD per night), while comparable properties often offer free two-category upgrades at low occupancy. The check-out was also transactional, lacking a final check-in on our experience.

Final Verdict
The W Punta de Mita offers a gorgeous, exciting, and highly unique luxury resort experience. The design, the secluded rooms, the fantastic beach access, and the delicious food make it absolutely worth the trip. It’s a perfect destination for a celebratory trip or when traveling with a lively crowd. While there are a few areas where the service could be elevated to truly compete with the highest-tier luxury resorts in the area, it remains a beautiful and highly recommended adventure. We would definitely visit again!
