It features a large bar area, sunbeds, and a travertine plunge pool, making it a perfect spot to relax and take in the city.

The Best New Luxury Hotel in the Eternal City
Having lived in Italy for four years (yes, I lived in Italy and speak Italian!), Rome has always been a city I return to willingly.
Choosing the right hotel here matters in a way it doesn’t everywhere else — the city competes with the property for your attention, and the wrong base can cost you the experience.
The Rome EDITION, conceived by Ian Schrager, gets this balance right. It sits close enough to everything that matters without being swallowed by the tourist corridor around the Trevi Fountain and Termini.
This is a hotel that opened in 2023 inside a renovated 1940s rationalist-era bank building — and it shows in the architecture, deliberately so.
This is our full review of the Rome EDITION, covering the Skyline Suite, all four dining venues with hours, the rooftop pool, and whether it earns its place as the best new luxury hotel in Rome.
Arriving at The Rome EDITION — The Garden Sets the Tone
From the moment you arrive, the Rome EDITION’s garden captivates. It’s a verdant oasis, masterfully designed with plush seating bathed in sunlight yet beautifully shaded by lush greenery. It’s the perfect spot for a refreshing welcome drink, a serene introduction to the hotel’s sophisticated ambiance.
The landing when you walk in is not only walking into a small forest or beautiful trees, but hidden between these trees is the perfect place for an all day cocktail!
The Lobby & Common Spaces — Ian Schrager's Vision in Practice
Stepping inside, the hotel echoes the chic, welcoming vibe I’ve experienced at other EDITION properties, notably the Riviera Maya.
Now the lobby is not huge, but its well decorated and spread out giving it a unique atmosphere. The lobby is a masterpiece of design, featuring a stylish welcome desk, inviting sofas and chairs perfect for lounging, and an abundance of artfully placed greenery.
A truly unique touch is the pool table situated to the right, adding a playful yet elegant element to the grand entrance.
The Skyline Suite at The Rome EDITION — Views, Design & Details
We stayed in the Skyline Suite, which faces both Rome’s historical center and the hotel’s courtyard. The room type is 74 guest rooms, 17 suites, and 2 penthouses across the property — fitted into former office spaces, meaning some rooms have larger windows and more natural light than others. Worth checking when you book if natural light is a priority.
The design runs toward minimalism but doesn’t feel cold. Walnut wood-paneled walls and a furry throw blanket across the bed pull the room back toward warmth. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the Skyline Suite frame the Rome rooftops, and the light shifts in the evenings in a way that makes the room feel like a different space entirely after sunset.
The Bedroom
Custom king-size bed with premium linens, EDITION-branded robes and slippers, Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speaker, Nespresso machine, and a minibar stocked with champagne and chocolate from local Roman chocolatier SAID.
The Bathroom
Dark gray stone throughout. Carrara marble basins, Agape fixtures, rainfall shower or deep soaking tub depending on room type. Le Labo toiletries with EDITION’s custom scent throughout.
Technology
Smart controls for lighting, shades, and temperature. Flat-screen TV. In-room soundproofing is genuinely effective despite the central Rome location.
The View
The Skyline Suite faces the historical center and the courtyard. Upper floors give the broadest sightlines. As the sun drops, the glow across the rooftops is worth staying in for.
Light sleepers should request an upper floor room. The ground-floor bars build in atmosphere through the evening — which is great if you’re in them, less so if you’re trying to sleep above them.
Culinary Delights and Elevated Experiences
The lobby serves as a central hub, offering seamless access to the hotel’s exquisite restaurants and surrounding bars.
Whether you’re heading to your room via the elevators or exploring the hotel’s culinary offerings, everything is conveniently located.
These same elevators whisk you up to the rooftop, where you’ll discover a truly spectacular pool and outdoor bar boasting unparalleled afternoon and evening views of the city. These vistas alone are worth the visit!
Anima offers Italian dining with bold flavors inspired by Rome and Naples, curated by Chef Antonio Gentile and built around seasonal ingredients. All-day dining is served throughout the day — standout dishes include the Cavalieri Spaghetti with three tomatoes and the homemade focaccia. The kitchen is open-fronted and screened with amber glass so you can watch the team at work. The garden courtyard — with over 400 plants — provides outdoor seating on one side, and an all-day terrace on the other with a menu of light dishes available into the evening. The wine list focuses on Italian labels with international selections alongside.
Punch Room is a speakeasy-inspired bar concept built around the history of punch as a drink. The dark walnut wood bar is accompanied by a Rosso Levanto marble fireplace and custom armchairs in rosewood and dark brown leather. The current cocktail menu, called Discovery, draws on imagined travel journals and blends storytelling with globally inspired flavors — each drink tied to a trade route or colonial ingredient. Award-winning across the EDITION portfolio globally. The martini here is the right starting point.
The Jade Bar
EDITION’s cocktail bar – Jade Bar is an intimate mixology destination with floor-to-ceiling green antique marble alongside accents of satin brass and gold. Guests sit on emerald velvet banquettes beside Jeff Koons-inspired sculptural pieces. The bar offers signature martinis, exclusive champagne cocktails, and elevated bites including caviar and anchovies. A sensory collaboration with Le Labo — pairing cocktails with the Tè Noir fragrance — adds an unusual dimension to the experience. This is the most intimate space in the hotel. Confirm current operating status before your visit.
Located on the seventh floor (take the elevator to the left behind reception) .. The Roof features a spacious dining area with a panoramic terrace and a travertine plunge pool. The menu celebrates fresh fish and meats prepared with traditional grilling techniques, with a coastal Italian focus. The pool is haloed by daybeds in solid oiled teak and bronze metal vases along the terrace edge. Views from here take in the Pantheon, the Basilica of Sant’Andrea della Valle, and the broader Rome skyline. The sunset aperitivo hour is the best time to be up here. Don’t miss it.
Craft Cocktails and Unforgettable Sips
For those who appreciate a finely crafted drink, the Rome EDITION delivers. The hotel’s dedication to craft cocktails and signature drinks is evident throughout. For a truly intimate and sophisticated experience, I highly recommend a martini in the Jade Bar – its dark, sexy ambiance is simply irresistible.
A Roman Rarity: The Rooftop Pool
The rooftop pool, while designed for laps, is undeniably gorgeous and incredibly inviting. It’s more than just a place to swim; it’s a unique and luxurious amenity, a true rarity in Rome, offering a refreshing escape with stunning panoramic backdrops.
Backed by swimming, but for most its roof top bar and sitting area is what brings all the boys to the yard. Whoop!
Spa, Gym & Wellness at The Rome EDITION
The wellness offering at the Rome EDITION is compact but well-equipped. The gym is described as high-tech and positioned as a genuine training space rather than a token hotel fitness room. Two treatment rooms offer massage and spa services — enough for guests who want a focused treatment without a full spa day program. For a more extensive spa experience in Rome, the hotel’s location puts several of the city’s dedicated wellness spaces within reach.
Fitness classes are also available — confirm the current schedule with the hotel on arrival as offerings vary by season.

I travel for a living, a Delta 1 Million Miler 1MM, 10 years Diamond Medallion, 7 years straight Marriott Ambassador Elite, and oddly still Hilton Diamond (lame!). It’s the stories I collect along the way that truly fuel me.
From high-rise hotels in buzzing metropolises to quiet beachside cafés tucked between palm trees, my career takes me across the United States and beyond—and I take every opportunity to explore, taste, and soak up the local vibe. Whether I'm grabbing late-night bites in Belgium, sipping wine in Napa, or discovering rooftop gems in New York City, I always keep an eye out for the places and moments worth sharing.
