- Hotel Fact: Hotel Yellowstone was originally conceived as a collection of private rental homes. A previous owner built multiple stand-alone houses across the hilltop property. When a new owner later acquired the land, nine of those buildings — along with the main lodge — were completely reimagined and transformed into the intimate 36-room luxury retreat that exists today.

Introduction to Hotel Yellowstone
There’s a particular challenge we all come across when it comes with researching a hotel online. Reviews and photography can capture a unique hotel or resort, nor do they rarely capture everything. The vibe, the views, the experience, what are even the best rooms. Yet, Hotel Yellowstone is one of those rare properties where words and photos fall meaningfully short of the actual experience and we hope to give you a better look inside.
What most reviews don’t tell you — and what I wish I had known before arriving — is how quietly perfect this place truly is. It isn’t ultra-luxury in the traditional sense. Instead, it’s something more personal and, in many ways, more impressive — yet luxury. What follows is the most honest account I can offer, from the moment of arrival to the final goodbye.
Arrival — Getting to Hotel Yellowstone
The hotel is roughly a 20-25 minute drive from Jackson Hole Airport. Hotel Yellowstone offers private hotel transfers directly to the property. Pricing is per vehicle for up to five passengers.

Arrival to Hotel Yellowstone
Hotel Yellowstone sits atop Spring Creek Ranch, very close to downtown Jackson. If you’re flying in, Jackson Hole Airport is your arrival point. From there, two options are worth considering: rent a car in advance at the airport, or arrange a private hotel transfer. Uber is also available in Jackson & Jackson Hole.
If you’re driving, the approach through downtown Jackson and up the mountain is genuinely beautiful. The road winds and switchbacks upward, passing smaller properties, open pastures, and horses grazing across Spring Creek Ranch. It builds anticipation with every turn.
At the very top, you’ll pass Amangani resort — currently under full renovation, with an anticipated reopening in summer 2026 (we doubt it from the look of its current status). Sharing the same driveway, Hotel Yellowstone appears just beyond it. The moment you arrive, the quiet is the first thing you notice. It immediately adds to the sense of seclusion and elevation the whole hilltop exudes.
Valet met us at the car without delay. We were escorted under the awning and into a lobby that is quaint, refined, and beautifully layered. It’s not grand in scale — but it is immediately striking. And straight through the windows, the Grand Tetons command the entire view.
Inside the lobby, a large communal table was fully stocked with snacks, desserts, smoothies, water, and light bites. We were offered these instantly, along with a welcome cocktail — a proper vodka drink, not just juice. At that moment, we knew we were in exactly the right place.
Our hosts then walked us through the property. They covered the daily rhythm of the hotel, including the 4:30 PM complimentary cocktail hour — wine, champagne, and light treats served every evening in the lobby and on the outdoor terraces. Custom cocktails are available from the bartender at an additional cost, though the hosted selection is genuinely generous on its own.
The Hotel Yellowstone
Hotel Yellowstone is a deliberately intimate property. There are just 36 rooms on site — and every single one is exactly the same size. No larger suites, no premium tiers based on square footage. The owner made a conscious decision: every guest deserves the same quality of space.
The property’s origin is equally fascinating. Years ago, the original owner built a collection of individual homes across the hilltop with the intention of renting them out. When a new owner acquired the land, those buildings were reimagined entirely. Nine structures — plus the main lodge and restaurant — were transformed into a cohesive, high-design luxury experience.
What resulted is something genuinely rare: a property where intimacy and intention drive every decision. Nothing here feels mass-produced or corporate. The owner spared no expense on decor, design, or hospitality. The result is a place that feels like a very refined, very private home — one that just happens to also have an executive chef and a full-service team.
Games are available throughout the lobby — cards, checkers, chess, and other board games — all free to use. The common areas invite you to linger. The outdoor terraces, open fire pits, and seating areas connected to the lobby create a natural gathering space that feels social without ever feeling crowded.
The Suites at Hotel Yellowstone at Jackson Hole
We selected the Grand Teton Suite room — the furthest from the main lodge, with a completely unobstructed sightline to the mountain range and the valley floor below. It offers maximum privacy as well. Unlike the rooms closer to the pond and lobby, this room cannot be seen from the common areas. For guests who prefer seclusion, it may well be worth the small price difference.
Suites Overview:
- You can read our guide to selecting the best suite here
- All 36 rooms are identical in size and layout — no room is larger or “better” than another!
- Grand Teton Suite offers the most privacy —no obstucted views, not visible from the lobby or common areas
- One-touch fireplace in every room
- iPad controls everything — lights, shades, drapes, and TV from bed
- Sliding wall between the bathtub and bedroom — Grand Teton Suite opens to frame the mountain view while bathing
- Full crystal glassware throughout property — a luxury detail absent at both Montage and One&Only
- Fully complimentary minibar — all drinks and snacks included, again something lacking from both Montage and One&Only
- Large sliding glass doors open to a private balcony overlooking the Grand Tetons and valley floor
First Glance at the Grand Teton Suite
Upon entering, our host walked us through the room thoroughly explaining every detail of the room and its features. The bathroom featured a Toto toilet and a beautifully upgraded design. The one-touch fireplace was a welcome detail. Most impressively, every element of the room — lights, shades, drapes, the television — is controlled through a single in-room iPad. Lying in bed and adjusting every setting without touching a single wall switch felt genuinely luxurious.
Its All In The Suite Details
One of the room’s most memorable architectural features is a sliding wall between the bathtub and the bedroom. Opening it creates an unbroken visual line from the bath to the mountain range visible through the balcony doors. It is an exceptional detail that elevates an already beautiful bathroom.
The closets deserve a special mention. Though the rooms are compact by design, the built-in cabinetry is some of the finest we have encountered anywhere. The way the doors open — smooth, effortless, and with a mechanism unlike anything seen before — speaks to the level of craft the owner invested throughout.
The glassware inside the room is full crystal — a detail conspicuously absent at both Montage Big Sky and One&Only Moonlight Basin.
It’s a small thing that quietly signals a different standard. So too does the fully complimentary minibar. All drinks and snacks are included at no charge and restocked twice daily. The only comparable experience we’ve had was at the Ritz-Carlton Maldives. Alcohol is not placed in the room, so there’s no confusion — but everything else is simply yours to enjoy.
The rooms large sliding glass doors open directly onto the balcony. Step outside and the Grand Tetons fill the entire horizon. Fire up the fireplace, let the cool breeze drift in, and take a moment to let the scale of what’s in front of you truly land. That balcony was the undisputed highlight of our entire trip.
- All 36 rooms share the same layout and size. The website lists different room categories, but every room has a Grand Teton view. The primary difference is proximity to the mountain — and how visible your balcony is from the lobby and pond areas.
What Is the Best Room at Hotel Yellowstone at Jackson Hole?
All 36 rooms at Hotel Yellowstone are identical in size and layout. What differs is your view and your sense of privacy. Here’s a breakdown of all four suite categories to help you choose the right one for your stay.
Grand Teton Suite
These are the premium views on property. Maximum privacy — the resort is completely out of sight from your balcony.
Grand Reflection Suite
🏞️ Pond & Grand Teton Views
A dual perspective — the Grand Tetons in the distance and their reflection mirrored in the large stream that runs through the property. A beautiful and uniquely layered view that rewards guests who appreciate detail.
Things to Consider
The surrounding resort is visible from your balcony. A less private feel than the Grand Teton Suite.
Vista Suite
Sweeping views of the broader mountain range and valley floor. Some rooms in this category can also capture the Grand Tetons depending on exact positioning.
Things to Consider
Grand Teton views may be partially obstructed. Other resort buildings may also be visible from the balcony.
Reflection Suite
💧 Pond & Resort Views
Views of the pond and resort grounds, with a partial glimpse of the mountain range in the background. A pleasant outlook, though less dramatic than the other categories.
Things to Consider
Your balcony is visible from the lobby and outdoor community areas. The least private option on property.
Dining On-Site
The on-site Olivia’s Restaurant serves all three meals of the day. The executive chef and team greet guests personally — a level of warmth that sets the tone for every meal. Seating is positioned alongside floor-to-ceiling windows, framing the same Grand Teton panorama visible from every room.
Please note Olivia’s Restaurant is for registered Hotel Yellowstone guests only.
| Venue | Meal | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Olivia’s Restaurant | Breakfast, lunch & dinner | All three meals daily; chef-driven menu; Grand Teton views |
| Lobby Chef’s Table | Breakfast & evening bites | Croissants, cheeses, meats, free smoothies, and beverages — afternoon hors d’oeuvre |
| 4:30 PM Cocktail Hour | Evening | Complimentary wine, champagne & light bites nightly; custom cocktails available at extra cost |
| In-Room Dining | All day | Full menu available for delivery to your suite |
Our first dinner was one of the finest meals of the entire trip. We were welcomed by the executive Chef Brandon and team with a complimentary amuse-bouche before our order was even placed. I had the halibut; my wife chose the pork chop. We shared a bottle of Stag’s Leap red wine and left the table genuinely stunned by the quality. A new menu debuted for summer, which meant our second dinner was an entirely new experience — a beautiful steak and potato with fresh appetizers and more wine. Both evenings were exceptional, Chef Brandon Esposito is an incredible talent serving a five-star menu with a 5-star experience and view.
Breakfast was included with our stay, though morning mimosas were not. We made the most of that. On mornings when we didn’t want a full sit-down meal, the lobby display table offered more than enough — croissants, cheeses, small meats, crackers, free smoothies, and an array of beverages. It served as a quiet and satisfying alternative on slower mornings.
Brunch was equally impressive. Honestly, there is not a weak meal to be had at this restaurant. Every service was consistent, warm, and thoughtfully executed.
The Grounds at Hotel Yellowstone
The grounds at Hotel Yellowstone are intimate by nature. The hilltop setting — overlooking the valley and framed by the Grand Teton National Park — does most of the work. There are no sprawling resort paths or manicured gardens. Instead, the landscape is natural, open, and quietly breathtaking.
The outdoor fire pits and open terrace seating connected to the lobby are central to the evening experience. Each night, guests gathered here for the 4:30 cocktail hour — playing checkers by the fire, watching the light shift over the Tetons, and simply enjoying the stillness. It became a daily ritual we looked forward to.
Beyond the property itself, the surrounding area offers extraordinary access to the outdoors. Grand Teton National Park is essentially at your doorstep. Downtown Jackson is a short drive. The ranch on-site offers horseback riding — a genuinely unmissable experience for a stay of three or more nights. Hiking, white-water rafting, and park tours are all easily arranged from the hotel.
Shopping On-Site at Hotel Yellowstone
Hotel Yellowstone does not feature a large retail footprint — and that is entirely consistent with its identity. Shopping here is thoughtful rather than expansive. The lobby area carries select hotel-branded items and curated gifts in keeping with the property’s design aesthetic.
For broader shopping, downtown Jackson Hole is a short drive away and offers an excellent range of galleries, boutiques, and western apparel stores. It’s well worth a visit during your stay.
For real shopping, head downtown to Jackson. Its a quick drive and offers plenty of shopping, eating, and late night fun.
Amenities at Hotel Yellowstone
The amenity list at Hotel Yellowstone is intentionally compact — reflecting the property’s philosophy that quality always outweighs quantity. What’s here is exceptional. What isn’t here simply isn’t needed.
The indoor-outdoor pool is a standout. Technically an indoor pool, it opens fully to the outside — allowing guests to experience the fresh mountain air while floating in calm water. The view from the pool, framed by the Grand Tetons, is extraordinary. This is not a pool for sunbathing. It’s a pool for quiet contemplation and stunning scenery.
The outdoor sauna is equally remarkable. It’s programmable to your preferred temperature and features glass doors throughout — so the experience never feels enclosed. Sitting in the sauna with the Grand Tetons filling the glass in front of you is something genuinely difficult to describe. It must simply be experienced.
Lobby games — cards, checkers, chess, and select board games — are available to all guests at no charge. The 4:30 PM cocktail hour functions as a built-in social amenity, drawing guests together each evening without any obligation to participate. It’s an elegant and distinctly human touch.
For off-site adventures, the hotel is exceptionally well-positioned. The on-site ranch offers horseback riding. Grand Teton National Park tours, hiking, and white-water rafting are all nearby and easily coordinated through the team.
Spa & Fitness at Hotel Yellowstone
The spa at Hotel Yellowstone is deliberately intimate. It consists of just a few treatment rooms — a scale that perfectly mirrors the property as a whole. Nothing about it feels large or clinical. Instead, it feels personal, quiet, and genuinely restorative. Taking advantage of at least one treatment during your stay is strongly recommended.
The fitness center is similarly compact. Realistically, it accommodates about three people at a time — a treadmill, weights, and a bike. It is small, yes. But it is also well-maintained and beautifully finished. The owner’s commitment to quality over scale is evident even here.
Together, the spa and fitness center reflect a clear design intention: this is a place built for rest and restoration, not resort-scale wellness programming. For guests whose priority is stillness, views, and deeply personal service, that trade-off is more than acceptable.
Checking Out of Hotel Yellowstone
Leaving Hotel Yellowstone was not easy. By the final morning, the rhythm of the place had become genuinely familiar. The team greeted us every single day — management in the morning, staff on the property throughout the day, the executive chef at dinner, the valet at the car. Every interaction felt sincere and unhurried.
Morning and evening turndown service arrived precisely when needed, without a single request. For guests like us — relatively neat, self-sufficient travelers — that level of quiet attentiveness is easy to appreciate and hard to leave behind.
Check-out was handled with the same warmth as every other interaction. The valet had the car ready. Goodbyes were warm and genuine. The team at Hotel Yellowstone makes it effortless to feel like a regular — even on a first visit. That ease of connection is among the property’s most enduring qualities.
Final Thoughts on Hotel Yellowstone
Hotel Yellowstone is not ultra-luxury in the conventional sense. It doesn’t have 200 rooms, a sprawling spa, or a bowling alley. What it has instead is something more valuable and considerably harder to engineer: a sense that every single detail was placed here for you, specifically.
After visiting Montage Big Sky and One&Only Moonlight Basin on the same trip, the contrast was clarifying. Those properties are larger, busier, and spectacular in their own right. Hotel Yellowstone operates on an entirely different register. There are fewer moving parts — which means every part moves perfectly. You are never lost. You are never overlooked. And you are never, not once, made to feel like just another guest.
If you are heading to Jackson Hole, stay here. Come for the Grand Tetons. Stay for everything else. This place will exceed whatever you are expecting — quietly, completely, and without any fanfare at all.
