Omni Viking Lakes Hotel Review: A New Standard for Twin Cities Hospitality

Honestly, who goes to Minneapolis? Well if you are stuck going there like me then you definitely need to weed through the energies of hotels and resorts to find your flavor. I will say now, this place is mine.

Location & Atmosphere

While I often stick to loyalty programs, the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel just outside Minneapolis truly justified the detour. This is not your typical regional hotel; it’s a striking, brand-new build that feels instantly grand.

The location is undeniably unique and is a major selling point for sports enthusiasts: it sits directly across the street from the Minnesota Vikings’ TCO Performance Center and practice fields. The sheer thrill of potentially watching professional athletes train from your room is an experience few hotels can offer.

The architecture is impressive—a multi-story, substantial property that draws inspiration from sleek Nordic and Icelandic design elements, giving it a sophisticated, modern aesthetic that feels miles away from the standard hotel experience.

Guest Room Experience: Elevated Comfort

My traditional guest room was anything but basic. The decor is beautiful, featuring modern fixtures and exceptional lighting. The design team did an outstanding job; the space feels well-upgraded and thoughtfully curated, avoiding the dated, traditional look one might expect from older chains.

The bathrooms deserve special mention. They are finished with brand-new tiling, plenty of towels, ample rack space, and a unique, quality selection of hair and body products. The bed was superb—super comfortable, heavily padded, and paired with nice decor, making the room a true haven after a long day.

Dining & Socializing: Ember & Ice Steals the Show

One of the absolute highlights of this hotel is the dining scene. The second-floor lounge, Ember & Ice, is an experience in itself. With a central fireplace and a focus on craft cocktails, it creates a fantastic, vibrant atmosphere. It truly captures a luxurious, cozy vibe—like being in a chic Colorado mountain lodge—but located right outside the Twin Cities.

The hotel clearly invests in its guest experience, offering various options from quick coffee to fine dining. In addition to the stunning facilities, the service and attention to guests are notable.

Final Verdict

If you need to stay near the Minneapolis area, particularly if you’re traveling through MSP Airport, I cannot recommend the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel highly enough. It is a fantastic, modern, and beautiful property located in Eagan, offering luxury accommodations and a unique proximity to the Vikings’ facility. It’s a definite upgrade from many of the older, less desirable airport hotels. The 10-minute maximum commute to the airport is just icing on the cake.
