It is designed to feel like a Balinese village — working rice paddies, a functioning temple on the grounds, open-air spaces woven into the jungle — rather than a conventional luxury hotel. Arriving at Mandapa — A Fountain-Lined Driveway Into the Jungle
We arrived by rental car — an unusual choice for Ubud, where most visitors use drivers or scooters. The guard at the entrance gate waved us through with quiet curiosity, and the driveway opened immediately into one of the more striking arrival sequences we’ve experienced: a long road lined on both sides by fountains, water cascading into pools that led the eye down toward the open-air lobby. We arrived in the evening rain, and a staff member met us at the entrance to guide us inside without getting wet.
The open-air lobby felt immediately different from any conventional luxury hotel. The sightlines extend out over the canyon edge toward the jungle canopy below, and the sound of the Ayung River carries up from the valley floor. Check-in was personal and unhurried, followed by a private property tour led by our Patih. Mandapa does not feel like it was built in the jungle — it feels like the jungle grew around it.

All accommodations at Mandapa are designed to function as standalone residences rather than hotel rooms. Most feature private pools, and the property also offers a community pool available to all guests.
