Introduction

The Best Family Villa Resort in Rancho Mirage

The Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas in Rancho Mirage is one of the most complete and genuinely relaxing resort experiences available in the Palm Springs area — and one of the best-value luxury villa stays in Southern California. Nestled in the heart of the Coachella Valley, this sprawling property delivers the space and comfort of a private home alongside the amenities of a full-service resort, all without the resort fee that most comparable properties charge.

This is our full review of the Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas — covering the villa accommodations, pools, restaurants with hours, activities, golf, spa, and everything you need to know before booking. Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a couples’ desert escape, or a golf trip to Rancho Mirage, this guide covers it all.

Arrival

Arriving at Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas, Rancho Mirage

The approach to Westin Mission Hills is immediately impressive. The resort grounds are vast and immaculately maintained — palm trees, native desert plantings, and a landscaping philosophy that works with the Coachella Valley environment rather than against it. The scale of the property is apparent from the first moment, yet the layout creates a genuine sense of privacy and quiet throughout.

One important detail for first-time guests: the Villas have a dedicated check-in area that is entirely separate from the adjacent Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa next door. Head directly to the Villas entrance on arrival. Check-in was efficient and friendly — the team processed everything quickly and provided clear directions to our building. Self-parking is free and positioned close to each villa cluster, which makes unloading straightforward even when traveling with children and significant luggage. It is a small logistical detail that makes a real difference on arrival day.

The Villas

Westin Mission Hills Villa Accommodations — Space, Comfort & the Heavenly Bed

The villa accommodation is the defining feature of a stay here — and the reason this property consistently outperforms comparable Palm Springs area hotels for families and groups. We stayed in a two-bedroom lock-off configuration, which provided a level of space and domestic comfort that a standard hotel room simply cannot replicate.

The Westin Heavenly Bed: The primary suite features Westin’s signature Heavenly Bed — arguably the most recognized hotel bed in the industry, and one that fully lives up to its reputation. Among the best nights of sleep we’ve had on any vacation.

Full Kitchen: A full-size refrigerator, microwave, and complete cookware set make self-catering entirely practical. We used it heavily for breakfast and light dinners — a meaningful saving over dining out for every meal.

In-Unit Washer & Dryer: A standout practical advantage over hotel rooms. Pack lighter, return home with clean laundry — a detail that matters significantly on longer stays or family trips.

Private Balcony or Patio: Every villa includes a private outdoor space. Ideal for cool desert evenings with a bottle of wine or a quiet morning coffee before the day begins.

Pools

Westin Mission Hills Pool Guide — Two Distinct Experiences

In Palm Springs, the pool is the resort. At Westin Mission Hills, two separate pool complexes serve very different needs — ensuring both families with children and guests seeking quiet have exactly the right environment. Both are open daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and both offer cabana rentals for a surcharge.

Paradise Pool

Daily · 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
The resort’s central family pool. Features a separate children’s wading area, a 155-foot waterslide (the longest in Rancho Mirage), hot tubs, and the Aloes Pool Bar for poolside food and cocktails. Lively, social, and designed for maximum enjoyment.

Villa East Pool

Daily · 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
The quieter alternative on the eastern side of the complex. Designed for guests seeking a more tranquil environment — ideal for reading, relaxing, or simply soaking up the Coachella Valley sunshine without the energy of the main pool area.

Dining

Westin Mission Hills Restaurants — A Complete Dining Guide with Hours

Dining at Westin Mission Hills is anchored by the villa’s direct access to the adjacent Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa — effectively giving guests access to four distinct dining venues without leaving the property. From a 24/7 grab-and-go market to an Italian restaurant serving all three meals daily, the options cover every occasion.

We found ourselves stopping by The Marketplace Express constantly for coffee, snacks, and any necessities we’d forgotten. For a more substantial meal, we highly recommend Pinzimini for a sophisticated dinner or their excellent weekend breakfast buffet. The Aloes Pool Bar was perfect for quick lunches and refreshing cocktails without leaving the pool deck.

Amenities & Activities

Things to Do at Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas

The Westin Mission Hills is designed as a self-contained resort destination — with enough activity options to fill several days without ever leaving the property. The emphasis throughout is on wellness, recreation, and relaxed outdoor living in the desert sunshine.

WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio: State-of-the-art equipment, accessible 24 hours a day for guests maintaining their fitness routines.

Tennis Courts: Multiple courts available to guests throughout the stay.

Basketball Court: Available on-site for casual use throughout the day.

Pinz & Pints Bowling: A full bowling alley at the adjacent Westin Rancho Mirage Resort — a popular evening option for families and groups.

BBQ Grills & Picnic Areas: Scattered throughout the villa grounds — perfect for casual outdoor dinners using your villa’s kitchen preparation.

Bicycle Rentals: Available for exploring the expansive resort grounds at your own pace.

Golf at Westin Mission Hills:

While the Villas do not have their own golf course, guests have direct access to two championship courses at the adjacent Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa — the Pete Dye Course and the Gary Player Course. Both are considered among the finest courses in the Coachella Valley. A shuttle service connects the Villas to the golf club, making access entirely seamless.

Spa

The Spa at Westin Mission Hills — Desert-Inspired Wellness

The full-service spa is located at the adjacent Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa and is accessible to all villa guests. The treatment menu is extensive — massages, facials, body treatments, and specialty experiences — built around a philosophy of natural desert wellness. What sets this spa apart from comparable resort facilities is its use of honey harvested from beehives maintained on the property itself. Several signature treatments incorporate this local ingredient, lending the spa a genuinely place-specific identity that larger chain properties rarely achieve.

An afternoon spa visit following a morning by the pool or a round of golf is the ideal Westin Mission Hills day. The combination translates into the kind of deep, restorative relaxation the property was clearly designed to deliver.

Our stay exceeded what we anticipated at every turn. The Heavenly Bed delivered on its reputation. The Marketplace Express at 2 AM was genuinely useful. Pinzimini for dinner was excellent. The Paradise Pool waterslide was exactly as entertaining as it sounds. And the quiet of the Villa East Pool on a Tuesday afternoon felt like a private desert oasis. This is a property that earns its reputation.
