One&Only Moonlight Basin Map
One&Only Moonlight Basin is a luxury resort nestled in Big Sky, Montana, designed for year-round mountain escapes. This marks the brand’s first U.S. property, fully opened in late 2025, and stands out as Big Sky’s most design-forward luxury hotel to date.
Crafted by renowned architecture firm Olson Kundig—recently recognized in 2026 for their global hospitality work—the resort’s design draws on the firm’s experience with Aman, Six Senses, Auberge, and Four Seasons. Expect bold architecture, exquisite materials, and floor-to-ceiling glass that frames the spectacular landscape like artwork.
While there are a few quirks in the property layout—not all rooms within the same category offer the same views—the overall setting is outstanding. The atmosphere is modern, tranquil, refined, and highly personalized.
Before your stay, it’s worth reviewing the resort map. It clearly shows room categories, the spa and fitness center, gondola access, tennis courts, the resort pool, and main gathering areas, helping you plan your visit and select the perfect accommodation for your preferences.
One&Only Resorts
Experiencing ultra-luxury properties is not always a perfect endeavor. Every so often, however, a resort exceeds every expectation and raises the bar entirely. One&Only Moonlight Basin is exactly that kind of place. From arrival to departure, the experience was consistently flawless. Nothing felt overlooked, and nothing felt ordinary. The architecture (by Olson Kundig) is bold, modern alpine, with massive glass walls, stone, timber, and views framed like art.
This is the kind of modern luxury that, in our experience, is typically only found internationally. Comparing it to our stays at the Ritz-Carlton in the Maldives and the St. Regis in Dubai feels appropriate. Very few domestic properties have reached that level — and yet, somehow, this one does.

Arrival to OOMB
We were already staying at Montage Big Sky when the anticipation set in. The drive through Big Sky City Center and then up the mountain toward Moonlight Basin was stunning. Bright green trees lined the winding road during shoulder season. If you’re traveling from Bozeman Airport, the resort is roughly a 50-minute drive via private hotel transfer or rental car. Keep in mind that rental car guests are charged for daily valet parking.
Our arrival at the valet was warm and immediate. This is not a Las Vegas grand entrance. Instead, it’s refined, modern, and quietly impressive. The valet team greeted us instantly, opened our doors, and removed all luggage without a word of hesitation. We walked inside, grabbed coffee, and waited for our host to arrive.
We had checked in around 10:30 in the morning, admittedly earlier than most. Our room wasn’t quite ready yet. Because we booked with Classic Travel, we were given additional in-room amenities — desserts, fruit, champagne, or wine — require a brief setup period. It was a small, familiar wait with a wonderful reward.
Once our host arrived, we were escorted outside for the branding ceremony. First, a bell was rung to announce our arrival to the property. Then we were each handed a small wooden coaster and given the opportunity to brand it with a custom design. Options included sweet sentiments like “love,” “family,” and “fun.” We chose a mountain range — naturally. Afterward, given an overview of the property and quick tour of the main lodge before settling in.
The Moonlight Suite at One&Only
Upon entering our suite, the warmth was immediate. The first thing we always do in a new room is open the patio door and turn on the fireplace. Doing both simultaneously creates that rare sensation of being outdoors while remaining completely comfortable inside. The suite delivered that feeling effortlessly.
Every detail in the room was thoughtfully executed. Warm lighting surrounded us from all sides — including inside the closets and bathrooms. The morning light was beautiful, and sitting on the patio with a glass of champagne felt genuinely luxurious. One standout detail: the patio floor is heated. Even in cooler morning air, your feet stay perfectly warm.
The bathroom deserves its own appreciation. A double stone sink, a Toto toilet, and a massive jacuzzi all overlook Big Sky Mountain. The fireplace is double-sided, shared between the bedroom and the bath. Soaking in the tub while a fire burns beside you — with the mountain range visible through the window — is an extraordinary experience. Automatic blackout shades handle any unwanted sunlight with ease.
A few smaller touches made a lasting impression. The room included two robes: one for the room, and a separate robe specifically for traveling to and from yoga class. A Bose speaker was mounted near the television. We connected our music immediately, and the room had a wonderful atmosphere throughout the day.
What are the best rooms on property at One&Only Moonlight Basin?
It is difficult to really pick-out what is best. Here is a good guide to go by from our experience:
Lodge-Connected Suite:
Best for guests who love sweeping views of either Moonlight Basin or Lone Mountain at Big Sky, with the cozy proximity of the main lodge & dining. Request a high floor and to face Big Sky’s Lone Mountain. The valet-side of the building faces the meadows.
Alpine Cabin:
Best cabins for guests who prefer extreme privacy, quiet, and a more disconnected experience from the central resort areas. They are the farthest rooms from the resort facing the meadows. Rooms 400-405.
Meadow Cabin:
Best for guests who prefer privacy, quiet, and a more disconnected experience from the central resort areas. Keep in mind, the views a bit limited and can face the backside of the Alpine Cabins — some even face the busy roadway. Rooms 410-416. Make sure you request rooms 410-413 as they are farthest from the main road.
Big Sky Cabin:
Best for guests who prefer privacy, quiet, and a more disconnected experience from the central resort areas. Keep in mind, the views a bit limited in these cabins as they face the busy roadway heading up to the Sky Lodge. Rooms 420-425.
From the suites, you have full views of the resort. From the cabins, those resort views are traded for total seclusion.
Dining On-Site at OOMB
The dining program at One&Only Moonlight Basin is thoughtfully curated. The number of open restaurants varies depending on the season. During our shoulder-season stay, the options were more limited — but the quality never wavered.
| Venue | Type | Hours / Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wildwood | Breakfast, lunch & dinner | Opens for breakfast; full menu available all day |
| Arika Back | Japanese-inspired dinner | Evening dining; third-party operated |
| Josephine | Bar & light bites | Opens at 5 PM; in-room dining menu available when other venues are closed |
| The Landing | Sky Lodge restaurant | Located at the Sky Lodge; seasonal hours |
| In-Room Dining | Full menu | Available when dining outlets are closed; can also be ordered at Josephine |
Breakfast at Wildwood was included in our stay and offered both a buffet and a full à la carte menu. Everything is farm-to-table and genuinely fresh. The fried chicken and biscuit comes highly recommended. Additionally, their handcrafted smoothie menu was a highlight each morning. Mimosas and a full bar are also available at breakfast if you’re in the mood.
Dinner at Arika Back was a standout of the entire trip. The service was warm and attentive throughout. We ordered sushi, hamachi, a cucumber salad, and a Japanese-inspired halibut dish. All cocktails were Japanese in spirit, and our server was exceptional at guiding us through the menu. Though the staff wear One&Only name badges, Arika Back is technically a third-party restaurant. Nevertheless, every dish arrived perfectly timed.
Each evening, we made our way to Josephine for late-night cocktails. The bar team there is simply impeccable. We ordered off-menu regularly, and the bartenders embraced the creativity — crafting beautiful drinks from mezcal, tequila, vodka, and gin. One evening, we dined at Josephine as well. We selected from the in-room dining menu, which offers more options than Josephine’s shorter light bites list. Be aware that the tables at Josephine are small — space is limited, so plan accordingly.
The views from Josephine are a genuine highlight. Connected to the main lodge, it looks out over Lone Mountain, the surrounding balcony fireplaces, and the entire resort below. On a snowy evening, that view becomes something truly magical.
The Grounds at Moonlight Basin
The resort is set within a stretch of forest and open meadow. Despite covering a wide area, the layout never feels spread out or disconnected. Everything is naturally connected by heated walkways. Even when snow began to fall during our stay, walking the property remained effortless and enjoyable.
The main pool is heated and open throughout both summer and winter. A large jacuzzi accompanies it, with sweeping views of Lone Mountain. For those seeking privacy, three poolside cabanas each include their own private jacuzzi. It’s the ideal way to enjoy the outdoors without being on display.
The Kids Club
The Kids Club was impressively designed. It features a snack and drink bar, pool tables, shuffleboard, and even a small private movie theater. During our shoulder-season visit, no children were present. However, given the hotel only opened in November, I imagine the warmer months will bring a very different energy.
Unexpectedly, it began to snow during our stay. What started as a warm, sunny afternoon transformed into a full winter wonderland over two days. The heated walkways meant we never had to slow down. Experiencing both 70-degree sunshine and 30-degree snowfall in a single trip elevated the entire stay to something truly special.
One&Only Moonlight Basin Shopping and Gifts
There are three separate retail spaces within the resort, each with its own character and focus:
NEO Boutique: A boutique in the main lodge near the lobby carries curated gifts and resort-branded items. Shop distinctive beachwear, designer jewelry, local designs, cowboy hats and exclusive capsule collections made for One&Only.
Wellness Spa: The spa lobby houses an athletic and wellness boutique, where One&Only branded clothing can be found.
NEO Life at the Sky Lodge: The largest retail experience is inside the Sky Lodge. Located on the upper floor, it carries One&Only branded apparel alongside high-end winter and summer clothing. Skis and snowboards can also be stored here after a day on the mountain. NEO Life at Sky Lodge store is beautiful and well-stocked — bring your checkbook, because the prices reflect the caliber of the resort.
Amenities
The host program is the single strongest element of the entire experience. From the moment of arrival, every guest is assigned a dedicated personal host. That host manages everything — dinner reservations, off-site experiences like horseback riding, in-room requests, or simply getting a ride to Big Sky Town Center.
During our extended stay, we had left extra luggage in the car. A quick text to our host was all it took. Our bags were delivered to the room by the time we arrived from breakfast. The team’s responsiveness never wavered.
Adjacent to the main lodge is a Sky Lodge accessible by a short walk or a side-by-side vehicle ride with your host. During winter months, guests can catch a ski lift directly to Lone Mountain at Big Sky Resort. A morning breakfast and coffee bar is also available inside the Sky Lodge before hitting the slopes on the ground floor.
Observatory:
On-site, an observatory is available for guest use. However, it’s not mentioned during check-in and requires 24-hour advance notice. This is an amenity worth asking about proactively before you arrive.
Wellness: Spa & Fitness
The spa and fitness building sits just outside the main lodge, with its own welcoming lobby. Staff greet guests immediately upon entry. A boutique surrounds the interior space, offering hotel gifts and fitness apparel.
The gym upstairs is exceptionally well-equipped. Upon arriving, guests are greeted with complimentary water, options to build their own morning protein shake, and take-home metal water bottles as a keepsake. Headphones, towels, and every standard gym amenity are provided. Equipment spans treadmills, stair masters, and a full selection of modern weights and barbells.
Connected to the spa is an outdoor yoga area and an indoor Pilates studio. Behind the building, a large indoor lap pool features multiple lounge chairs and floor-to-ceiling windows. In winter, the windows are closed but the natural light remains. In summer, those windows open fully — allowing a cool breeze to flow through the space and bringing the outdoor elegance inside.
Check-Out
Check-out was effortless. We walked upstairs, greeted our host, and someone was sent to our room immediately to collect the luggage. What followed was a warm, leisurely goodbye with the team — a natural consequence of how genuine every interaction had been throughout our stay.
My wife and I love connecting with people. At Moonlight Basin, that came easily. We made real friends among the staff in just a few days. The valet brought our car around, loaded everything, and handed us bottled water and a farewell gift from our host.
Throughout the stay, we had also received handwritten notes of gratitude from team members. Those small, personal gestures made the whole experience feel remarkably human.
Final Thoughts
One&Only Moonlight Basin is genuinely built for a specific kind of traveler. If you value quiet, design-forward luxury with meaningful personal service, this property is for you. The level of modern ultra-luxury here rivals anything we’ve experienced internationally — and that is not a comparison we make lightly.
For context, Montage Big Sky is a wonderful property. But it represents a more traditional American luxury — polished, comfortable, and familiar. Moonlight Basin feels like something else entirely. It carries the intimacy and intention of a great international resort, set against one of the most dramatic mountain landscapes in the country.
Whether it’s snowing or sunny, whether you’re skiing Lone Mountain or simply sipping champagne by the fire in your suite — One&Only Moonlight Basin simply delivers. Again and again, it delivers.
“Not many places deliver true modern luxury at your fingertips. This one does — and then some.”
