The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is the finest luxury resort we have honestly visited. After numerous great experiences staying at beautiful properties — like the St. Regis Dubai to One&Only Moonlight Basin to the Ritz-Carlton Maldives itself — nothing has come close to what the Fari Islands experience delivers from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
This is our full, honest, first-hand review of the Ritz-Carlton Maldives Fari Islands. We will cover everything: how to get there, what the overwater villas are really like, the complete restaurant guide, butler service, the Ring of Fire sunset ritual, and every detail you need to decide whether this resort belongs on your travel list. Spoiler: it does.
Pre-Arrival Tips for The Ritz-Carlton Maldives
Upon landing in the Maldives, our transition through customs was swift and efficient. We were immediately greeted by the Ritz-Carlton Maldives staff, who took care of our luggage and even assisted us in finding an ATM (location near docks VIP lounge).
A crucial tip for any going to the Ritz: most (if not all) resorts take US dollars, which initially surprised us, as we were expecting to use local Maldivian currency. Either bring cash to tip or be prepared to withdraw USD directly from ATMs at the airport!
Another vital piece of advice: alcohol is strictly prohibited for import into the Maldives. Consumption is permitted only within your resort, so leave your duty-free purchases at home or check them in at the airport in a locker. Now we were not personally searched, but they might be checking in luggage under the plane before delivering.
After a quick ATM stop and refresh, we boarded a large boat, exclusively hosted by The Ritz-Carlton, for our transfer from Malé to the Rtiz-Carlton Fari Islands.
Currency: Most Maldives resorts, including the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands, operate exclusively in US dollars. Bring USD cash for tipping or plan to withdraw from ATMs near the VIP lounge at Velana International Airport. Do not assume local currency will be accepted.
Alcohol: Importing alcohol into the Maldives is strictly prohibited — including duty-free purchases from the airport. Consumption is permitted only within your resort. Leave everything at home. The resort’s bar program is excellent.
Arrival Experience At The Ritz-Carlton Maldives
The transfer boat docks directly at the Ritz-Carlton’s private arrival point on their private island.
Exiting the boat, we were welcomed with a traditional Maldivian ceremony — a bullhorn greeting that immediately signals this experience is different from anything else. Our dedicated “Aris Meeha”, or island butler, was waiting and drove us away on a golf cart without a moment’s delay for an island tour.
While our villa was being prepped, our butler provided a grand tour of the entire resort — all pools, every restaurant, the spa, kids area, and the surrounding island layout. The Ritz-Carlton Maldives has no traditional front desk though there is a check-in/check-out sitting area.
Check-in is conducted entirely within your villa, in private, once you’ve settled in. It is a detail that immediately reframes the entire arrival experience.
The Overwater Villas At The Ritz-Carlton Maldives
We originally booked a one-bedroom Lagoon Pool Villa — an overwater villa with private pool and ocean views ($2500/nt).
But, what we received at check-in was something far beyond that expectation: an upgrade to a two-bedroom, 3,800 sq ft overwater suite with a separate living room, a small kitchen area, an enormous overwater private pool, and completely uninterrupted sunrise views over the Indian Ocean. The value of the upgrade was approximately four times the cost of our original booking ($9800/nt)!
Sunrise views are the correct choice at the Ritz-Carlton Maldives. Your day begins earlier and warmer, your private pool time starts hours before sunset-facing guests wake up, and by the time sunset arrives you are already at dinner and cocktails.
The villa itself is exceptional in every detail. Our two-bedroom setup came with four bicycles for island exploration. The private pool is expansive and genuinely private — surrounded by nothing but open ocean. Opening the villa doors completely, turning on the music, and spending the afternoon by the pool with a bottle of Whispering Angel rosé became our daily ritual.
The in-villa honor bar is fully complimentary — all non-alcoholic beverages and snacks are included at no charge and restocked twice daily.
Ritz-Carlton Maldives Restaurants — A Complete Dining Guide
The dining program at the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands is extremely diverse. Seven distinct venues cover everything from Japanese omakase to casual beach dining, Italian fusion to a Middle Eastern village restaurant. Throughout our six-day stay, every meal was off the charts fantastic!

La Locanda — Italian Fusion & Breakfast
The resort’s main restaurant, centrally located within the villa grounds. Serves breakfast daily and Italian fusion for lunch and dinner. A consistent and beautiful anchor to every morning.
One dining detail worth knowing: every restaurant consistently offered a complimentary appetizer with every meal. We quickly realized that ordering slightly less still resulted in a generous and satisfying experience.
The Buffet — Do Not Miss It
On our first evening, we were invited to join the resort’s dinner buffet. This is not a standard hotel buffet. It is an extraordinary spread — unlimited fresh lobster, extensive sushi, crab, and far more. Priced at approximately $200 per person, it is worth every dollar. Overall, this was the single best dining experience during our entire week on property.

Access to Patina Maldives, Fari Islands
Guests have complimentary access to the neighboring Patina Maldives, a Marriott Design Hotels property next to the Ritz, Fari Islands. A transfer boat runs between the two resorts on a shared schedule, and all charges at Patina can be billed directly to your Ritz-Carlton room account.
This effectively doubles the dining and exploration options during your stay — a massive addition if you are not keen on the Ritz’s offerings.
The Pool At The Ritz-Carlton Maldives
I bet when you are envisioning a trip to the Maldives, images of pristine beaches and overwater villas come to mind. Yet, at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, the main pool offers an experience so unique, it becomes a destination in itself. This isn’t just a place for a dip; it’s the beating heart of the resort with a full menu from Eau Bar and catered service.
Nestled gracefully on the resort’s central island, the Ritz-Carlton Maldives main pool is a massive and a perfectly circular design. Its expansive, creating an illusion of seamless integration with the surrounding ocean. During the hot hours of the day, this massive pool offers a serene retreat, a quieter haven for those seeking peaceful relaxation amidst the scenery of the ocean.
Ring of Fire
The Ring of Fire at Sunset – Wow this was unexpected! As the sun begins to set, painting the Maldivian sky with hues of orange and purple, the main pool area undergoes a transformation. This is when the Ritz-Carlton Maldives sunset ritual truly comes alive, becoming a highlight for many guests. Gather at the sophisticated EAU Bar, where the bartenders create excellent cocktails, perfectly complementing the panoramic views.
As the sun sets, a “ring of fire” is ceremoniously lit along the pool on the water, accompanied by the rhythmic beat of drums.
Ritz-Carlton Maldives Butler Service — The Aris Meeha Experience
Every guest at the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands is assigned a dedicated Aris Meeha island butler available around the clock. Your butler handles everything — from villa tour upon arrival to restaurant reservations, activity bookings, and any in-villa requests throughout the stay. Ours quickly became part of the fabric of our experience, contacting us via WhatsApp throughout our stay.
As Marriott Ambassador Elite, we were also invited to an exclusive cocktail reception — an opportunity to meet staff and management across the resort in a relaxed, social setting.

Fishing trips, ski boat rides, and clear-bottomed canoe rentals are all available. Dedicated children’s facilities allow parents uninterrupted adult time. Private boat charters to uninhabited islands for dinners are also available for guests seeking a truly unique evening.
Villa Living & The Fari Islands Experience
In all honesty, our absolute favorite pastime was simply cracking open a bottle of Whispering Angel rosé, relaxing by our private, massive pool, and soaking in the sun while listening to music with our villa doors wide open.
Every villa comes equipped with a Bose sound system, so we cranked it up with our favorite chill house playlists and jammed out every day – a perfect blend of luxury and lots of drinks.
Every villa at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives is equipped with two bicycles, allowing for easy exploration. Given our two-bedroom setup, our villa came with four bicycles, making it easy for everyone to enjoy the island.
The Spa At The Ritz-Carlton Maldives
The spa at the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands is fully capable of matching the level of the resort as a whole. During our stay, Kerry visited for a blowout and massage — both executed to our high standards 🙂 . Super easy booking but be prepared to pay up!
One particularly charming discovery during our island time: a small park with artfully arranged stones and wooden swings tucked into the landscape — a quiet, photogenic corner of the island.
The "Other" Island?
Another unique and highly appealing amenity is the complimentary access to other islands within the Fari Islands called the Patina Maldives, Fari Islands. Guests can board a transfer boat that takes them to neighboring resort, significantly expanding dining options to include other restaurants and even charming food trucks.
We were happy to discover that we could room-charge all our dinners and drinks back to our Ritz-Carlton account as the Patina Maldives, Fari Islands is a member of the Marriott’s Design Hotels.
