The Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas, Palm Springs

This guide covers everything you need to know about planning a rejuvenating stay at The Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas, Palm Springs, a premier vacation ownership property nestled in the beautiful Rancho Mirage area of the Coachella Valley.

Introduction: A Tranquil Desert Oasis

The Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas offers a perfect blend of high-end resort amenities and the comforts of home, making it an ideal choice for families and couples seeking a restful desert retreat in the greater Palm Springs area. Our stay exceeded expectations, providing a quiet, restorative environment with easy access to all the excitement of the valley. From the moment we arrived, the commitment to relaxation and superior comfort was evident, setting the tone for a truly memorable vacation.

Arrival and Check-In Experience

Arriving at the resort, we were immediately struck by the vast, immaculately maintained grounds. The resort is spread out, allowing for privacy and quiet, and the architecture perfectly complements the desert landscape. Check-in was efficient and friendly. It’s important to note that the Villas have a dedicated check-in area separate from the main hotel next door. The staff quickly processed our reservation and provided clear directions to our building. The availability of self-parking close to the villa clusters made unloading luggage exceptionally easy, a significant convenience when traveling with family.

The Hotel Grounds and Ambience

The property functions as a true, sprawling desert oasis. The resort takes pride in its beautiful, verdant landscaping, complete with palm trees and native plants, which creates a peaceful atmosphere despite the large size. We appreciated the eco-friendly focus, noting its Energy Star and LEED certifications, which demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. The entire property is designed for relaxation, offering a sophisticated yet casual ambience that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the sunshine. The fact that the Villas do not charge separate resort fees is a massive bonus, making the value proposition extremely attractive.

Villa Accommodation: Comfort and Convenience

Our villa rental was the highlight of our accommodations. We stayed in a two-bedroom lock-off, which provided ample space and privacy. The quality of the furnishings and the overall layout were outstanding. The primary suite featured the renowned Westin Heavenly Bed, which lived up to its name—providing some of the best sleep we’ve ever had on vacation.

The unit included a full kitchen, which we utilized heavily for preparing breakfast and light dinners, saving us time and money. Having a full-size refrigerator, microwave, and all necessary cookware was invaluable. Furthermore, the in-unit washer and dryer meant we could pack light and return home with clean laundry—a small but important detail that makes these villa rentals stand out from a standard hotel room. Each villa also boasts a private balcony or patio, perfect for enjoying the cool desert evenings.

Restaurants Onsite (The Villas & Adjacent Resort)

Dining options are plentiful, thanks to the Villas’ direct access to the adjacent Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa.

We found ourselves stopping by The Marketplace Express constantly for coffee, snacks, and any necessities we’d forgotten. For a more substantial meal, we highly recommend Pinzimini for a sophisticated dinner or their excellent weekend breakfast buffet. The Aloes Pool Bar was perfect for quick lunches and refreshing cocktails without leaving the pool deck.

Shopping Onsite

For shopping needs, the resort primarily focuses on convenience and essentials. The main retail spot is The Marketplace Express, which functions as a high-end convenience store. It is fully stocked with snacks, drinks, travel necessities, sunscreens, and even small souvenirs.

  • The Marketplace Express (Villas Onsite): Open 24/7.

  • Gift Shop/Pro Shop (Adjacent Resort): Limited retail is available at the adjacent Westin Resort’s lobby or golf pro shops, mainly focused on apparel and resort-branded items.

Pools

Forget the beach—in Palm Springs, the pools are the main attraction, and the Westin Villas delivers spectacularly. There are two primary outdoor pool complexes available to guests, both open daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

  1. Paradise Pool: This is the large, central, family-friendly pool. It features a separate children’s wading area and the famous 155-foot waterslide, which provided endless entertainment. This pool area is lively, centrally located, and includes the Aloes Pool Bar and hot tubs.

  2. Villa East Pool: Located on the eastern side of the complex, this pool is designated as a quieter option. It’s perfect for those seeking a more tranquil environment to relax, read, or simply soak up the desert sun away from the excitement of the main pool.

Both areas offer plenty of sun loungers and cabanas (available for a surcharge).

Activities & Amenities

The resort is designed as an all-inclusive playground for activity lovers. Beyond the stellar pools, the amenities focus heavily on wellness and recreation.

  • Fitness: The WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio is accessible 24/7, offering state-of-the-art equipment to keep up with your routine.

  • Recreation: Guests have access to multiple tennis courts, a basketball court, and the fun Pinz & Pints bowling alley at the adjacent property. There are also barbecue grills and picnic areas located throughout the villa grounds for personal outdoor cooking.

  • Golf: While the Villas do not have their own course, they are adjacent to the championship Pete Dye and Gary Player golf courses at the Westin Rancho Mirage Resort, offering world-class golfing opportunities just a short shuttle or walk away. Bicycle rentals are also available for exploring the expansive grounds.

The Spa

For ultimate relaxation, the full-service spa is located at the adjacent Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa. This facility offers an extensive menu of services, including massages, facials, and body treatments. The spa is well-known for its dedication to natural wellness, offering signature treatments that often incorporate local desert ingredients, such as honey from the resort’s own desert hives. Taking an afternoon for a massage here is the perfect way to cap off a day in the desert sun.

Final Closing

Our stay at The Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas, Palm Springs, solidified its reputation as a top-tier desert retreat. The combination of spacious, fully-equipped villa rentals, numerous amenities (especially the pools and the convenience of the 24/7 Marketplace Express), and the option for upscale dining at Pinzimini, makes this property an outstanding choice. If you’re looking for a comfortable, convenient, and relaxing base for your Southern California desert vacation, this is the place to book.

I can certainly expand on the Heavenly Bed experience, or perhaps we can look into activities in the Rancho Mirage area just outside the resort. What would you like to dive into next?
