City Play List
The absolute best things to do, eat, and experience in Bali’s cultural and spiritual heartland — curated and personally vetted.
Ubud is where Bali reveals itself. Away from the coastline crowds and beach club noise, this is the island’s cultural and spiritual core — a place of ancient temples, terraced rice paddies carved into steep river valleys, and a wellness scene that has drawn seekers from every corner of the world for good reason. It operates on a slower, deeper frequency, and once you’ve felt it, the rest of Bali can feel like a distraction.
This City Play List is our definitive, personally vetted guide to Ubud’s best experiences. Not a generic list of tourist stops — a curated selection of the moments, places, and meals that define a great stay here. From the most photogenic waterfall you’ve never heard of to the finest dinner you’ll eat in all of Southeast Asia, this is your insider map to Ubud.

Best Restaurants in Ubud
Ubud’s dining scene punches well above its size. These are the restaurants worth planning your evenings around — from fine dining experiences to the most interesting bistros in town.
Kubu at Mandapa
The finest dining experience in Ubud, and arguably in all of Bali. Private bamboo cocoons perched above the Ayung River — intimate, fragrant, and breathtaking in equal measure. The menu is refined and ingredient-driven. Book ahead; this is not a walk-in situation.
The Sayan House
A Japanese and Latin-inspired menu served above the Ayung River gorge — the view alone is worth the reservation. Creative without being gimmicky, and the cocktail program is one of Ubud’s best. A highlight for any discerning traveler.
Ambar at Mandapa
Japanese fusion dining set within the Mandapa Reserve — intimate, refined, and an excellent alternative on nights when Kubu is fully booked. The Japanese whisky selection is exceptional. Resident guests have priority access.
Kebun Ubud
A relaxed Mediterranean-influenced bistro with a genuinely excellent kitchen. Good wine list, warm service, and the kind of food you keep thinking about after you leave. Perfect for a casual dinner after a day in the rice terraces.
Kyoka Japanese Kitchen
Some of the most precise Japanese cooking you’ll find outside Japan itself. Elegant without being stiff, with an emphasis on quality product and clean technique. A reliable choice for any evening in Ubud — the omakase is worth the investment.
Zest
Ubud’s best plant-based restaurant — and we say that as people who don’t typically seek out vegan dining. The food is genuinely inventive and satisfying, not a concession. If you’re in Ubud for wellness, this is a natural fit. Even if you’re not, it’s worth a meal.
Best Day Clubs & Pool Parties in Ubud
Ubud’s pool club scene is genuinely world-class — perched above jungle valleys, overlooking rice terraces, or built directly into the rainforest canopy. These are the best.
K Club Ubud
Bali’s most lavish jungle pool scene. K Club sets the standard for day club luxury in Ubud — dramatic design, impeccable service, and a setting that photographs like a dream. The place to go if you want to do it properly.
Jungle Fish Bali
Cretya Ubud
Omma Dayclub
Located near Tegenungan Waterfall, Omma brings lively energy to the Ubud day club scene. A younger, more social crowd than K Club, and a great option for a midday session before heading to the falls or the terraces.
Folk Pool and Gardens
The most laid-back option on this list — and sometimes that’s exactly what you want. Great music, easy atmosphere, a relaxed crowd, and food that’s better than you’d expect from a pool bar. A reliable, low-key afternoon in Ubud.
Kanyon Jungle Resort
A luxury resort with pools that are open to day guests — one of Ubud’s more scenic options if you want the resort setting without a full stay. Set deep in the jungle with the kind of seclusion that’s getting harder to find.

I travel for a living, a Delta 1 Million Miler 1MM, 10 years Diamond Medallion, 7 years straight Marriott Ambassador Elite, and oddly still Hilton Diamond (lame!). It’s the stories I collect along the way that truly fuel me.
From high-rise hotels in buzzing metropolises to quiet beachside cafés tucked between palm trees, my career takes me across the United States and beyond—and I take every opportunity to explore, taste, and soak up the local vibe. Whether I'm grabbing late-night bites in Belgium, sipping wine in Napa, or discovering rooftop gems in New York City, I always keep an eye out for the places and moments worth sharing.
